Scope of Internship:

The purpose of my internship was to bring organization to MLMI's collections. When I started my internship, most artifacts were wrapped in tissue and stuffed in unorganized boxes. My task was to create new collections storage solutions, organize the collection, accession and catalog the items, photograph them, give them permanent locations, and place all the information and paperwork into Past Perfect collections software. I also created and implemented museum policies to bring museum to best practice.

Collections and Registration Work:

Once I had created the necessary documentation (see below) I was able to begin the process of organizing the museum's collection. I unwrapped the items from their boxes and began a systematic process of cataloging. During my time I:

  • Rehoused and reorganized the collection

  • Monitored Integrated Pest Management

  • Accessioned over 400 objects into the collection

  • Photographed over 400 objects

  • Condition reported over 400 objects

  • Labeled over 400 objects

  • Created locations for over 400 objects

  • Updated and created files in Past Perfect

Created Documentation:

The museum was lacking critical museum registration paperwork. I created:

  • Accession Form

  • Condition Report Form

  • Deed of Gift Form

  • Confirmation of Gift Form

  • ID Badges

 Education and Exhibition Work:

  • Organized, wrote, and implemented a self guided tour
  • Curated small exhibition on Masonic Folk Art
  • Created standard docent guide
  • Created exhibition labels

Other Duties:
  • Acting Museum Director for 5 weeks
  • Organized and Publicized a Open House for the museum
  • Created Handout on the intergenerational workplace
